Lowndes Citizens United for Action, a nonprofit community
organization has endorsed the following local candidates:
1. For Lowndes County Coroner: Audrey Marlette (R) of
Hayneville
We
believe this important position could use some new blood; Audrey
is a local activist who has exhibited intelligence, sensitivity
and tolerance.
2. For County Commissioner District 1: Robert Harris
(D)
Commissioner Harris has shown "courage under fire" and a
willingness to learn and grow.
3. For County Commissioner District 4: Paul Sloane (R)
Commissioner Sloane replaced Sam Bargainier after his death.
Although we have had some disagreements with Mr. Sloane, he has
shown that he believes the people have a right to know, which is
an important part of our Open Government Project. His opponent
has never attended a County Commission meeting, and we feel that
is inexcusable.
4. For State Senate District 30 (Lowndes, Butler,
Crenshaw, Elmore and Pike Counties): "Walking" Wendell Mitchell
(D)
Some of us in Lowndes County were placed in District 30 after
the state district lines were redrawn. Some of us are in
District 23, now represented by Senator Hank Sanders. Senator
Mitchell helped us stop the landfill on the Alabama River and
has shown his consituents that he cares what they think.
Endorsements were made upon the request of the candidate or LCUFA
members; then the endorsement was put to a democratic vote.
